And NaNoWriMo 2010 comes to an end.

And so comes the last day of NaNoWriMo. My final wordcount is 56,011. It’s amazing to have met my daily 1,667 word goal and light up all the days of the little calendar with green boxes. I ended the story and I would say that it went okay.

I will say that halfway through the month, when I struggled with the idea of killing someone and doing a time lapse, I have to admit that while I’m only slightly annoyed by the time lapse (which was unfortunately needed to build a gap in time to have something else build up), I am really glad I stuck to my guns and had the character stay dead. I know in a fantasy world, there’s always a way to bring a person back from the dead but the character that died, I sort of felt like that his time came and went and everyone had to push on and etc etc etc…

I’m definitely not gonna bother editing this story until a few weeks down the road. That’s the one advice I will happily accept – where you set aside the book for a few weeks so that you can go back to it with fresh eyes and see what can be done better and if you made any mistakes story-wise. I know I’ve made quite a few along the way and jotted them down in a notepad as a reminder. Some characters appeared with certain intentions that just don’t make sense anymore and I gotta fix that too.

This was quite an unusual experience. I still laugh when I look back to before November started and I was seriously convinced that I’d last a day or two before calling it quits. I think maybe I’ll give it a try again next November to see if this wasn’t beginner’s luck! hehe.

  1. Congratulations!! It’s a great feeling, isn’t it? And yeah – I”m with you. I am all for a break before I look at my story again.
