Nintendo 3DS

Wow, looks like they announced that the Nintendo 3DS comes out on March 27th for $250.

A friend pointed out that he seemed to be most excited at the fact that there’ll just be one friend code – the 3DS itself instead of a code generated from each game in order to connect with friends.

Sounds interesting!

Fantasy Gathering turns 12 today. Long time! That’s all I wanted to say. hehe.

Exploring Dragon World

I got bored late last night and decided to venture into the free little world that was given to those who registered a year of cit during the Activeworlds sale.  I didn’t see ‘Dragon’ listed so I was like… “Try ‘Dragon’. If the world name isn’t taken, hooray!” and it turns out it wasn’t. The world is P5/5 so it’s pretty small. I just didn’t realize how small it was until I started tinkering with everything. The four ‘street’ objects in the image are there to demonstrate how far objects can go. I ended up plunging the whole world under water and created a tiny island in the middle. This free world lasts a year and I am not renewing it so I won’t put much effort into it! hehe. I think when I’m bored again, I might try building something in the water. Who knows?

Hard to stay on top of things!

I’ll admit, I am not very good when it comes to reading books or watching movies. While people rave about the most popular books and movies, I … don’t tend to do anything. It’s a real pain in the butt to pop a DVD in and watch. I still haven’t seen Avatar, The Last Airbender, Percy Jackson, Alice in Wonderland, etc… (Though as a quick side note – I can’t stand Burton/Depp. Man, they ruined Charlie and the Chocolate Factory!) I haven’t touched Twilight, naturally…

Some friends thought I’d go crazy over some of the shows that came on SyFy such as Eureka, Warehouse 13, or Merlin. I gave all the series a try but got bored fast over a few episodes and quit watching. One thing I have noticed is that when SyFy does marathons, I tend to like the show (Like Jericho and Tru Calling). The first two seasons of Merlin are on Netflix and I suppose I could always try watching a bunch of episodes in one sitting and see if I end up liking it. Funny how that works…

I should also open a book section and list the books I have. I can bold the ones I’ve read – which would most likely be much fewer than all the books I have! hehehe.

What is AW? – Extreme Builder Talent Show 4

What is ActiveWorlds?
I was asked to explain what ActiveWorlds is. I normally blog about AW at my very old tripod site (Blog) but I guess I can start blogging about it here! It’s a universe where you can build to your heart’s content. Tourists can build for free but anyone can delete your builds. No one can delete a Citizen’s build except for the ‘higher ups’, of course. I joined back in 1998 as a tourist but then registered for citizenship ($20 yearly) when I got sick of my builds being deleted.

Then in early 2002, the price of citizenship shot up to $6.95 per month and that’s when the community has been in decline since. It’s pretty quiet nowadays compared to what it was like back then. Because I couldn’t afford to keep my own citizenship going, friends let me borrow their extra cits to build under. I’m extremely grateful for that!

So that’s why I posted about the one day sale! 30 dollars for one year – Who wouldn’t take that? hehe.

Extreme Builders Talent Show IV
A current contest running in AW is the EBTS4. It’s where anything goes! Go crazy in a 6×6 lot and build something that reflects what you’re capable of. It runs from December 28th to January 31st. I tell you, there’s nothing more annoying than staring at a lot and trying to figure out what to put in that spot!

I realized the world didn’t have a ground cover so it meant I could go below ground. An idea slowly emerged about a waterfall and some buildings and that’s what I got so far.

Happy New Year! Resolutions!

So 2011 is about to come splashing onto the scene in less than four hours from now. Of course, that’s when the usual topic comes up about resolutions. What do you resolve to do?

I guess my top three list would go like this:

1. Books
I seriously have to start reading. I don’t see myself doing the 50 book challenge whatsoever. I can not even approach the idea of ripping through a book on a weekly basis in order to meet the goal by the end of the year. Maybe if I try to force myself to finish a book per month, that might be something I could try to do.

2. Writing
I definitely want to start editing what I wrote during NaNoWrimo 2010 and this is all due to the fact that CreateSpace is giving a free proof copy to everyone who won. The code expires at the end of June so that gives me a good period of time to open my file, start breaking it down in chapters, and make it all come together.

3. Dreams
I used to churn out dreams on an almost daily basis in my Dream Journal but at some point in 2006, I slowly stopped. I only ever posted a dream once in a while when I thought about it. I’ve noticed that in the past few weeks I’ve been remembering more dreams again. It’s just hard to remind myself to think about the dream as I wake nowadays. I think I need to start writing them down again and getting them typed up. I don’t expect hidden messages. Just interesting stories wanting to be told!

Not terribly exciting but maybe something realistic to achieve for 2011!

Happy New Year!

All citizenships have been renewed til January 4th so you can still renew your existing cit for $30 if you hurry!

EBTS4 – Progress

I realized the world didn’t have a default groundcover so I was able to go down a bit below ground. After thinking about it, I figured it’d be neat to have a little waterfall come down and have some buildings around it. It’s the details that’s going to be a pain, I’m sure.

I have to break up the one room houses with walls, toss in furniture to make each room, etc… What I’m currently unhappy with is how ‘unnaturesy’ it is. I was hoping to weasel in more trees and plants. I guess I just gotta stick more around the area.

Coming out of the Dark Ages

I’ve been told that I need to bring my site out of the “dark ages”; that if people are going to read, they prefer light backgrounds and dark text. I didn’t want to tinker with the color theme (I’ve always been fond of light text on dark backgrounds) but I guess it does make sense to make things easier to read.

After some tinkering, I got a new color theme up. Light background and dark text. I also nudged the size of the font up the next step to make it bigger. I figured the diamond background can stay since there’s little to no text over it. Let me know if I missed anything through the blog.

50 Book Challenge

Written by: on Monday, December 20th, 2010

I keep hearing more and more about this challenge from friends so I got to thinking that since I did awesome during NaNoWriMo, maybe I’ll take up this challenge where the goal is to read at least fifty books in one year. I’m not a reader. I have no patience to open a book and make it to the end.

I remember when I first started roleplaying way back, people would be surprised that I didn’t have any favorite authors. I never read anything. This got me to thinking that maybe I should start picking up some books but…

During roleplaying, I discovered that it was pretty fun to write. I’ve always liked writing and it was starting to become a possibility that I could try to write something. I don’t see myself becoming a professional author or anything!

That’s when the idea of reading books became scary. Everything I role-played and wrote was purely from my own imagination. I’m worried that if I read all these books, I’ll start dismissing my own stuff. “Oh, he wrote that first. She wrote that and it’s terribly famous. That was already done with so I can’t do this.”

It’s sort of weird. If I wrote something and someone else says, “It’s just like what he wrote.” I can just shrug and say, “Cool.” because I thought of it myself too. But if I already read the book that was mentioned, I would probably react and think, “I knew I shouldn’t have written that! They were going to compare it to that book!”

I think I’ll embark on that journey for 2011 though.
