Pinch! Punch! First of the month! No returns! 😉

I wasn’t planning on posting this since it seems to lack any details to make it really stand out but I kept tinkering with it anyhow… A baby dragon!

Sometimes you just have to stop what you’re doing and get a bit silly to try to get some creative juices going…

R Town in ActiveWorlds

I was asked where I usually build in ActiveWorlds. The main building world is AlphaWorld but people build in a variety of other AWI-hosted worlds like Yellow, AWTeen, Winter, etc… Riff built R Town in AlphaWorld and I do most of my building in or near the town.

R Town – AW – 2159N 1535W

ActiveWiki – R Town

Also, a quick note, I found out that a mystery location I suggested got used in January’s edition of the Active Worlds Newsletter! – Mystery Location. NurseMom was the one to know where it was located! It was of the abominable snowman terrorizing SantaLand located in AlphaWorld at 207.66S 1083.33E 0.17a 316.

Carmageddon

Sometimes technology can be a pain in the butt, especially when older stuff just stops working. I have a friend who suffers with having to figure out how to keep word documents updated over the many years as new programs are created and older stuff just stops working or comes out as gibberish. In my situation, I had to hunt down a bunch of mess to get ‘Carmageddon 2: Carpocalypse Now’ to work again.

I still think it’s an awesome game after all this time. I remember getting this back in 1999. I couldn’t figure out how to use cheats so I was forced to play the game as it was. It was really awesome to complete it on my own. Once I figured out how to use cheats, the game was fun all over again with random stuff to try. I just loved how if you got bored of racing, you could explore. I often explored and hunted down my opponents in order to complete races.

I never got a chance to play the first Carmageddon. I did later on get Carmageddon TDR 2000 because I was expecting it to be more awesome. It was “okay”, I guess. I thought doing missions in the game was pretty annoying, especially when you had to maneuver yourself into certain areas. Though when I felt the urge to play the game again, I only ever bothered with playing Carmageddon 2 more often than 3.

It’s too bad Carmageddon 4 never made it to the shelves. I most likely would’ve bought that game too.

Bear

You know, I fought back and forth on whether or not I should blog about it. I didn’t want to come back and re-visit this post over and over. I finally decided I should say something about him.

Bear passed away yesterday on February 8th, 2011.

I guess it’s hard to figure out what to say. He was 16 years old. I still remember my mother picking me up from school way back in May of 1995 and taking me home. There was a puppy running around in the backyard and I was so blown away that my mother adopted a puppy out of the blue like that.

His story is this – My sister wanted to adopt a puppy for her house so she and my mother went to look around. My sister adopted a puppy and named him Squeaker. The other puppy, his brother, was already reserved for a family that had a little boy.

The house we moved into has such a big beautiful backyard, lots of room for a dog to run around. I guess the idea of moving into our own home for the first time instead of living on base or a rented house must’ve made my mother go back to the shelter a couple weeks later. She saw the same puppy sitting there and asked about it. It turns out that the couple returned the puppy because he was just too rambunctious. The little boy named him Bear and my mother decided to keep that name when she adopted him.

He had this very bad habit of jumping up on people (which was probably a deal-breaker for the couple that returned him) and we never could get him to stop jumping up on people until he got much much older. I mean, he somehow kept that same puppy-ish outlook through his whole life. He was always healthy and lived for so long. I think it stuns me at how quickly he fell apart the last couple of months. He just got worse and worse and the veterinarian finally gave the advice that he had to go, that it was his time.

It’s going to be weird for a long while. To not have him around anymore is just going to be tough to deal with.

Glaucus Atlanticus – Blue Dragon

While my friend was looking through images of animals such as marmosets, tamarins, and the like… I decided to hit google for any other unusual animals – only to come across this! Glaucus Atlanticus! Isn’t it just the neatest thing? My friend says that I’m only reacting to it because it’s blue but…

Some bits of information has it listed as Blue Dragon Sea Slug. It just looks downright awesome. What surprises me is how small it is! Apparently these things float in the water upside down due to gas in its stomach. It normally feeds on Blue Bottles and then stores the stinging cells for its own use if anyone else should touch it. Isn’t that weird?

Snow Dragon

As soon as I heard about this, I had to blog it!

“Minneapolis has a ‘Snow Dragon’ to melt snow on its roads.” (About 1:10 into the clip.)

Guild Wars

Well, Melika finally convinced me to try the free trial of Guild Wars. She and her friends used to play Perfect World last year before they lost interest (Sound familiar to another friend? Yeah, I’m looking at you.) but their attention turned to Guild Wars 2, a game that hasn’t come out yet.

I wasn’t interested in trying Guild Wars since it was going to end up costing money after the trial runs out but I figure that since we liked Perfect World at one time, that maybe this wouldn’t be so bad to try. My very first impression of Guild Wars was… I hated it. Horribly. I was going to use up the rest of the trial before saying anything but now I’m down to around three hours left. At first I had no clue what I was doing. We ran around for a bit trying to do a few quests.

The next day, I went back in with a clear mind and did a whole bunch of quests despite the fact that I keep dying a lot. For some reason, my energy to cast the spells gets depleted pretty quickly and then after I finally kill one monster, I got three or four others pounding away on me while my energy is almost nil. I’m sure I’m doing something wrong there but anyways…

What really drives me up the wall is that I can’t jump. I keep trying to jump whenever I get stuck. It also bugs the heck out of me that I can’t climb up or down hills/ledges or swim through water to save time. I have to take the long way around to get anywhere. Incredibly annoying. This is how I get cornered a lot too.

The graphics are downright beautiful though.

Selling off GBA & Games

Written by: on Tuesday, January 25th, 2011

It’s tough. I own a Nintendo Game Boy Advance (Well, two of ’em but one is in cruddy condition) as well as a few GBA games. I keep trying to convince myself to post them on the local selling site to make some money before they become practically useless. DS and DS lite has the GBA slot so GBA games were still useful to have. Now that they’ve moved on to DSi and 3DS, I suppose I oughta start listing the games and get some money back. It’s just whenever I start to approach the idea of actually listing them, I kinda shy back even though I haven’t popped the games in to play since… probably a year now. I know it’s the pack rat in me so I just gotta cage it and get this stuff pushed out of the house. It could be money put towards the 3DS but a big part of me wants to wait for the next DS twist since I got the DSi XL back on Christmas.

Third place in Holiday Village Contest

Wow, Imagine my surprise when I logged into ActiveWorlds and found a few telegrams of people congratulating me. The results of the Holiday Village was revealed! I raised a brow and said, “Surely there must be some mistake!” This is the first time I ever placed in the top three of a contest held in AW.

First place was Digigurl for her Mansion and second place was Apooka for her Church. My prize depends on what Apooka picks, which is either 3 months citizen extension or the p10/5 world hosted for 6 months. When she picks one, I get the other.
